Letter from Yanar Mohammed |
Dear
Friends I
wish a happy International Women’s Day to all. Our celebration
in Baghdad was a most positive one and also determined to change
the dark post-war scenario into a bright egalitarian one. Although
burdened by veil, insecurity and deprivation, almost a thousand
demonstrator (mostly women) gathered in Al Fardawse square to
demand secularism. While
the Governing Council convened to sign a constitution that
jeopardizes the lives of millions of Iraqi women, OWFI activists
and members anounced to the whole world that they will not
recognize a constitution that is mainly based on religion. March
8 is our IWD and we will not agree to change it into a
newly-invented Islamic day that isolates Iraqi women from the
International women’s movement. In
Solidarity Yanar Mohammed
